Meet the Faculty

Reveta Bowers, head of school, The Center for Early Education (CA)

Reveta Franklin Bowers was both born and educated in Los Angeles, California. For the past twelve summers, Reveta has been engaged as the lead faculty member at the NAIS INH.  This year, she is retiring from her position as head of school at the Center for Early Education in Los Angeles, (Toddler – 6th grades, 538 students), where she has been for the past 40 years.  She attended the University of Southern California, where she received her degree in Humanities.  She later returned to graduate school and completed a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology and three teaching credentials.  In 1995 Reveta was a Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia University Teachers College in New York.  Reveta has served and continues to serve on a number of boards. 

Pam Jordan, president, Idyllwild Arts Foundation

Pamela Jordan was appointed president of the Idyllwild Arts Foundation in July, 2014. Prior to joining IAF, she worked at the Chicago Academy for the Arts (CAA) for twenty-three years, serving as head of school for thirteen years. Pamela received a Bachelor of Music from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma and a Master of Education from Northeastern Illinois University. She has served on the boards of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States, Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools, and is currently the first vice president of Arts Schools Network, slated to serve as the president of the Board of Directors in 2016. She has served as a resource panelist to the School of the Arts, Singapore where she also delivered the keynote address for the school’s first bi-annual Arts Forum.

Doreen Kelly, head of school, Ravenscroft School (NC)

Doreen Kelly has been head of school at Ravenscroft School since July 2003. She joined the faculty in July 1999 as the director of the Lower School and a Lower School French teacher. Kelly graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Education. She is also a member of the board of Note in the Pocket, a non-profit organization providing clothing and dignity to impoverished and homeless children in Wake County. Doreen, her husband Chris, an Upper School Science instructor and admissions assistant, and their youngest child reside on campus. Their two sons attend Duke University.

Ed Kim, head of school, Breck School (MN)

Edward Kim joined Breck as head of school in July 2007, after 21 years as a teacher, coach, administrator, and assistant headmaster at Delbarton School in Morristown, NJ. Kim holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College and an M.A. from Columbia University Teachers College. In addition to serving as Breck’s head of school, he teaches AP Chemistry. He serves on the board of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) and has been on the faculty of the INH since 2010. Kim has also served on many boards including Delbarton School, Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of nonprofits, and the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart.

Jim Power, head of school, Upper Canada College (CANADA) 

Jim Power is starting his eleventh year as head at Upper Canada College, a Sk-12, IB school for boys in Toronto. He also serves on the boards of the International Coalition of Boys Schools and SSATB. Before moving to Canada, Jim was the head at Georgetown Prep for 11 years. Jim began his career as a high school English teacher, and he earned his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. He and his wife, Mary, have 5 children.

Eric Temple, head of school, Lick-Wilmerding High School (CA)

Eric Temple’s entire independent school career has been spent in California. He currently serves as the head of school at Lick-Wilmerding High School, a coed day 9-12 high school in San Francisco.  Before joining Lick-Wilmerding, Eric headed The Carey School, a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade coed day school in San Mateo, for seven years. Eric has served on many school boards, including Live Oak School, Philips Brooks School, Marin Academy, Trinity School, and Archbishop Riordan High School, and currently is the vice chair of the Board of Directors of the California Association of Independent Schools. Eric holds a B.A. (Boston College), a M.A. (UMass – Amherst) in English Literature, and an M.Ed in Educational Leadership (Teachers College, Columbia University). In his spare time he enjoys woodworking, gardening, and traveling with his husband.

Vince Watchorn, head of school, Providence Country Day School (RI)

Vince Watchorn is head of Providence Country Day School (RI) and trustee of The Tatnall School (DE) and West Nottingham Academy (MD).  He has served as associate head of The Ellis School (PA) and West Nottingham Academy and began his teaching career at his alma mater, The Tatnall School.  He is a former member of the PAIS Commission on Accreditation.  An arts enthusiast and environmental education advocate, he has curated gallery exhibitions, produced more than 50 concerts, and served on the boards of Delaware Center of Contemporary Arts, Brandywine Baroque, WVUD-FM 91.3, and the Associate Board of Delaware Nature Society. Vince has been formally recognized by the University of Maryland Center for Teaching Excellence and has received service awards from The Tatnall School and West Nottingham Academy. Of all his activities, he is proudest to have had a positive impact on the lives of students.
